France: Paris, the French Riviera… and the South West of France now! And the Young Rugby Team of the nearest Senior High School are now World Rugby champions!
Tuesday, May 19th, 2009While reading a newspaper this morning I felt like telling you I just couldn’t believe that even Italian people, so many of whom fled to our country to escape misery and poverty in some regions after WWI, or to escape the Rule of the ‘Duce’, nowadays only thought about France with very limited links to our indeed beautiful capital city Paris, and the ‘French Riviera’ ( South East of France neighbouring Italy) where the English and American used to spend most of their winter or Summer time ( or now have even settled for good and fully appreciate what they call ‘ the French way of living’, a synonym for them of balance and harmony, joy and happiness far from the over-stressing life of the UK or the USA…).
But what about the South West of France? Ok for some of them it’s linked with vineyards and some of the best wines in the world, and is that ALL, what about our region , the Landes department, gee… where’s that?
Well, we hope you now have a more complete idea of France and that we have enabled you to discover that there is another region which is worth it, along the wild Atlantic Ocean where surfing is also a way of living, attracting not only tourists from surfing areas like Australia, Brazil, Hawaï and the USA etc. and some of them stay here as permanent citizens like the famous champion Tom Curren and his family, but also the land of Rugby which represents values of our region, even if Football is very well-spread and loved by most of us, since even girls ( I can fancy your sniggering boys, :-))))) but it is widely acknowledeged that girls either practising football or rugby are very good technically speaking and sorry no, not in that field, they’re not ‘Comediante’… resorting to acting or tricks to get their ruling over the opponent team, sorry no, they’re fair-play and tough, determined !) then play in famous Rugby teams or more and more Football teams!
And yes, you need to know how proud we are to see that our young ones, some of them we had the chance to teach in the past, Dax ( neighbour town) Senior High School Boys’ Rugby Team have just become WORLD champions, and this is the school most of our ambassadors are now attending like Caroline and Jérémy ( who prefers football though), Elodie and Julien ( who’s good at tennis even coaching young ones, and poker as some of you know :-))) ), and the school that Mathilde and Marine will probably attend too next year.
TEAM SPIRIT… Fair-Play, going beyond one’s limits, yet respecting the others… key words...and values! In a region that writers and visitors used to call the French Sahara in the XIXth century, since life was tough (and it was a region they would say it was not worth staying in, but only going through to Spain or Morrocco and the African continent!)…but it has evolved and developed thanksfully! And Spanish people who have bought a lot of flats and come over to spend their week-ends over here, or Dutch and German people have fully understood it and so for a long time, since they’ve been coming over with their motorhomes for years, to enjoy our golden sandy beaches, the wilderness of the ocean and our forest where you can easily go cycling too…( but our wood treasure as we’ve told you has been very painfully destroyed recently by the 2 terrible tempests this winter), and once again what they also consider the attractive French way of living…
Once again this was a matter of ‘going beyond frontiers’, pre-conceived ideas( that keep people and foreign peoples apart and enstranged to each other) , and sharing ‘All Together in Diveristy’ the WEALTH of our Europe and its future… that lies in your hands, too young EYEbloggers!
